History

Contrary to what you might deduce from the name, this technique did not originate in France. Its origins lie in big, glitzy Hollywood, where in 1975 manicurist Jeff Pink gave birth to what would become the world's most famous nail art. At the time, there was the custom of matching the actresses' nail polish with each change of dress, an operation that took up a lot of the crew's time. Directors started asking manicurists to come up with neutral and easily adaptable nail looks, so Jeff Pink had the idea to create what is now the most famous nail art ever. Actresses and directors were enraptured by the beauty and simplicity of such a natural and versatile style, the regrowth was hardly visible and suited every stage outfit. The invention quickly caught on in the fashion industry, winning the attention of stylists. The following year, at Paris Fashion Week, numerous models paraded around with pink base nails and white smile lines. Jeff Pink took the opportunity to christen and present his creation to the world: the French Manicure.

Micro French Manicure

Needless to say, numerous manicurists still decorate the nails of Hollywood divas using this technique, customising it according to their preferences. For example, the famous Betina R. Goldstein is a fan and expert of the Micro French manicure, which she often does in colours other than the traditional ones.

Vanilla Nails

The style that has been gaining popularity since the beginning of this year is the American French manicure, also known as Vanilla Nails. Its creator is the manicurist of Hollywood VIPs Zola Ganzorigt and this style is all the rage everywhere. We can definitely say that this is the nail trend of the year! The version differs from the original by using an "off-white", less candid and creamier shade and a base that is not bright pink, but closer to the actual nail colour. The effect is sophisticated, just as versatile as the original.

Milky NAILS

To create this trend, we sculpted the nail with Pinky Builder and matted the surface. Then we applied Hazelnut, a pinkish beige gel polish and cured it. To seal the Nail Art, we applied Milky Aqua Gloss, a top coat with a milky effect which is perfect for this look. Finally, we removed the sticky layer after it had cured. Double French Manicure

Another widely used and loved option is the Double, so called because of the double line feature. There is no limit to the shade, length and shape to be used, you can choose whichever option you prefer. Obviously on a longer length the double smile line does not risk making the nail look shorter.

Chevron

A truly French twist is the Chevron, which is fun and easy to do. The design is drawn as an inverted V, so that this nail style is also known as V-Shaped.
